Trousers for work, leisure and late nights

Content

There are few items of clothing where evolution is quite as obvious as in trousers. Forget about the fact that women once only wore skirts and dresses – trousers for women genuinely only started gaining momentum in the 20th century, when they became a fashionable item of clothing. Ever since then, women's trousers have become essential casual as well as office wear and can look elegant and feminine at the same time: From beautiful top pleated trousers to the Marlene pants in retro style: their variety knows no bounds.

Which cut is the best?

Let's be honest: Nobody is ever completely happy with their figure. And if the legs were just that little bit longer, that would probably look much better. Of course that can be changed with exercise and diet – but it is much easier to just find the perfect pair of trousers. There is a perfect shape for every body type:

  • Top pleated trousers
  • Culottes
  • Cigarette trousers
  • Leggings
  • Marlene pants
  • Cord trousers

The shape as well as length of many women's trousers will change with every model. No longer does the whole leg have to be covered: 3/4- or 7/8-leg models are right on trend and perfect for summer. And then there are shorts and bermudas and those cute Audrey Hepburn-inspired capri pants.

Top pleated trousers

With a suit jacket or casually for leisure: The combination makes the difference. Top pleated trousers stand out for their single or multiple pleats on the top of the leg, as well as a wide fit around the hips and bottom. The leg generally tapers towards the bottom, and the material is usually soft and flowing.

That makes top pleated trousers incredibly comfortable and a great mix-and-match item for virtually any occasion. With a beautiful blouse and pumps for a business look, or a light shirt with loafers for a more casual everyday look – the loose fit of these trousers will also conceal a few unwanted pounds in the hip area.

Culottes

Culottes are the perfect solution when a skirt is too breezy and trousers feel too stuffy. They are wide and flowing with plenty of freedom for the legs but they provide the same pros as trousers and enhance every figure. The skirt trousers generally reach down to the calves or ankles and their flowing shape is generally very flattering on typical problem areas.

A turtleneck shirt or blouse make culottes great for the office or with a jumper and sneakers for a cool winter look. It is recommended that people with shorter legs wear shoes with heels.

Cigarette trousers

Slim cut cigarette trousers are best when they come in bright colours or floral patterns , which makes them trendy and will lift your spirits. The tight, straight cut model is especially nice when paired with wide tops, as it makes the legs look a lot slimmer. Light blouses complete the look for working at an office and makes for a more elegant alternative to classic trousers like chinos.

Leggings

Trousers couldn't get more comfortable than this – whilst also being incredibly versatile to combine. Long blouses or jumpers make them suitable for every time of year and the variety of colours as well as materials make them incredibly varied. How about some black leather leggings with a white shirt and oversized cardigan? And it is completely up to you if you wear loafers, lace-up shoes or boots with that.

Marlene pants

It was the iconic Marlene Dietrich who famously wore this style of trousers for women in the 1930s – something that at the time was unheard of for women to wear in public. This gorgeous look with a high waist and wide legs and softly flowing material works for any body type. Slim fitting tops accentuate the waist and create a beautifully feminine silhouette. A matching belt will further enhance the effect.

Cord trousers

Timeless cord trousers made of comfortable fabric with fine vertical ribbing is perfect for casual looks and great to mix and match. Muted colours like black or grey can be spruced up with eye-catching blouses for a casual outfit for the office or for leisure.

Comfortable fabric trousers for every day

As trendy denim and blue jeans are right now, nothing compares to comfortable fabric trousers for a long day at work or a cosy evening at home. Elasticated trousers are the perfect choice for comfort:

There are no annoying buttons and zips, they are very easy to put on and their cotton blend material is extra soft on the skin. Stretchy waistbands make sure they sit just right.

The jogger pants style is quite similar, but these women’s trousers are really reserved for casualwear. They make spending an evening in front of the television that much more comfortable – and paired with a pretty blouse and loafers you’ll be ready to go out in minutes. Most trousers have pockets for small items or to keep your hands warm.

More variety in fabric and cut

Trousers made of soft cotton, viscose or high quality virgin wool can create a variety of different looks, all of which look gorgeous and are comfortable to boot. It will be difficult to get it wrong: Trousers flatter every body type and are suitable for many occasions. An elastane content ensures just the right amount of stretch.

Linen is rising in popularity as a great alternative to these classic materials: The airy fabric falls loosely and is perfect to wear on warm days. Leather trousers are a more daring alternative that looks rocky and more rebellious. When combined with boots and a loose fitting blouse, leather trousers bring variety to your wardrobe and perk up everyday styles.

Trousers can also have flared legs or be more flattering to the figure in a skinny style. Boot cut trousers with wide legs are perfect for curvy women and a darker wash looks slimming. A high waist cut hides problem areas and allows you to wear cropped tops without showing any skin. Generally there is only one thing to think about: Whatever style of trousers you choose – you must feel good and be comfortable wearing them.
