Go Green is a sustainable environmental programme and has two main objectives: the revitalisation of the Philippine ecosystem, and the simultaneous preservation of the fashion accessories industry there. Go Green is backed by an initiative of the FAME Foundation (Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Foundation Philippines) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Region VII (DENR-VII).
Together they work on replanting forests: currently only a small part of the area is covered with vegetation. With the Go Green programme, 100 hectares of the forest area will soon be reforested with trees. The planted trees are the Mamalis (Pangantoan) species, which is the preferred type for the production of accessories.
The Philippines would like to be regarded as a supplier of ‘green jewellery’ in Asia. Of course, this positioning is very much dependent on dealing with the Philippine ecosystem and the consequential availability of raw materials. Go Green secures the sustainability of these resources while promoting social responsibility for its members.
Even at the beginning of the Philippine fashion accessory industry in the 1970s, only natural and indigenous materials from the entire archipelago were used. Today, with the growing popularity of organic jewellery all over the world, the Philippines want to defend and strengthen their image as a manufacturer of ‘green jewellery’. This goes hand in hand with the sustainable management of the natural resources of the country.
With Go Green, Philippine manufacturers and exporters can contribute to a sustainable and careful handling of resources, while at the same time promoting the social responsibility of companies in the industry.
