• History

  In 1888 Bernward Leineweber founded a menswear manufacturing company, selling it in 1931 due to the poor economic situation to Herbert Tengelmann, whose family are still the main shareholders today. The company head office has been in Herford since 1932. The BRAX brand, the name of which is derived from the word 'braka' – Latin for 'trousers' – dates back to 1950 when the company became established as a specialist in men's trousers. In 1972 women's trousers were added to the range, and in 1989 a complete fashion collection devoted to golfing attire, BRAX Golf, made its appearance. The 1990s saw the launch of two more lines, EUREX (modern functional trousers for men in their prime) and RAPHAELA (classic sports-casual trousers for the mature woman). BRAX has also been designing knitwear since 2003, men's shirts since 2006 and men's jackets and women's blouses since 2010. The company employs around 850 people.

  The "perma black" dyeing process developed and patented by BRAX stops cotton trousers, shirts and polo shirts from fading, Now the process has been developed not only for black clothing, but for blue and brown cotton goods. The garments are marketed with the label "perma black by BRAX".
