• History

  In 1932, successful cross-country skier and ski-jumper Willy Bogner Senior started up a small production operation in Munich, which thanks to the creative skills of his wife Maria soon developed into a successful business. Maria, who was responsible for turning the characteristic BOGNER letter 'B' into a registered trade mark, was awarded the Munich fashion prize in 1970 and was dubbed the 'Coco Chanel of sportswear' by the press. In 1972, the second generation joined the family business in the shape of Willy Bogner Junior, whose wife Sônia has been responsible for womenswear design since 1980 and in 1992 unveiled a designer collection under her own name.

• Worth knowing

  Since 1936, when Willy Bogner Senior swore the Olympic oath on behalf of all the athletes, the German Olympic team has always appeared at the Winter Olympics in BOGNER clothing. At the first fashion show in 1948, Maria Bogner introduced narrow stretch ski pants with a stirrup which were known in America as "Bogners" and were worn by film stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Ingrid Bergmann and Jayne Mansfield. Today BOGNER has outlets in over 30 countries.
